Luke Hansard (born July 5, 1752 in Norwich , † October 29, 1828 ) was an English printer.

Life

Hansard was the son of the manufacturer Thomas Hansard (1727–1769) from Norwich. He learned the art of printing, joined the parliamentary printer Hughes in London in 1772 as a typesetter, became its partner in 1799 and took over the entire business in 1800. He died on October 29, 1828. From 1774 until his death he published the Journals of the House of Commons , the minutes of the House of Commons .

His eldest son, Thomas Curson Hansard (* 1776, † 14 May 1833), owner of his own book printing company since 1805, wrote Typographia, an historical sketch of the origin and progress of printing (London 1825) , which is still highly valued in England today . It is based on the so-called Andreäschen Handbuch der Buchdruckerkunst (Frankfurt am Main 1827).
