Pleasure trip

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A pleasure trip was the original language of a trip for pleasure.

History

The pleasure trip serves - similar to the pleasure walk , a common term for stroll since the 17th century  - for diversion and edification; It distinguishes a trip from other trips that serve a specific purpose - such as professional tasks, culture, art or education - or from emigration or research , also known as a journey of discovery or expedition .

The term pleasure trip originally had no sexual connotation , but this changed at the end of the 20th century: Now a "pleasure trip" also describes a journey to gain pleasure as sexual pleasure, mainly used disparagingly in the context of reporting on economic scandals, but less in the problem area of sex tourism . In order to avoid the sexual connotation, the more harmless term "pleasure trip" has meanwhile established itself. The term pleasure trip is still used without any sexual connotations.

Examples of pleasure travel in current usage

  • In the summer of 2005 it became public knowledge that senior VW managers had given VW works councils expensive long-distance trips. At the same time, the accusation became known that they had dealt with prostitutes at VW's expense. These trips were often referred to as 'pleasure trips' in the media and in public. The ex-works council chairman of VW Klaus Volkert was sentenced to a prison sentence (2 years and 9 months) and had to serve this after the Federal Court of Justice rejected the revision of the judgment (which he and the public prosecutor had carried out).
  • In May 2011 it became known that as part of a three-day incentive trip for the 70 to 100 most successful HMI sales employees in Budapest in June 2007, a night was celebrated in the Gellért thermal baths , at which at least 20 prostitutes were also present. This trip was also often referred to as a 'pleasure trip'.
  • The long-standing practice of large energy companies or regional monopoly such as RWE and Eon to invite local politicians to extensive trips or excursions was increasingly publicly criticized from around 2005. From mid-2005 to around 2007 the public prosecutor's office in Cologne investigated the suspicion that Eon and RWE had been inviting supervisory boards of municipal energy companies to luxury pleasure trips for years. The investigators suspected “political landscape conservation” as the motive for the generosity of the energy suppliers. In 2007, they investigated around 700 local politicians and senior local officials across Germany who were suspected of accepting benefits. There were also criminal proceedings against managers from Eon and RWE for granting benefits. The Cologne public prosecutor's office described the fact that eleven supervisory boards of a municipal utility at the expense of the Eon subsidiary Ruhrgas to an energy conference - with their partners - in Rome as "a clear pleasure trip".
