Lutz Leisering

Lutz Leisering (born August 4, 1953 in Winterberg ) is Professor of Social Policy at the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University .

Leisering completed his studies in mathematics, computer science and political science at the University of Bonn in 1977 with a diploma in mathematics. He then studied Chinese and sociology in Bielefeld in Hamburg, Bielefeld and Beijing . He completed his sociology studies in 1983 with a diploma. After various activities at the Bielefeld Faculty of Sociology and at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research , Leisering began a doctorate at the London School of Economics, which he completed in 1989. He then became a research assistant and later a university lecturer at the University of Bremen in the Collaborative Research Center 186, where he completed his habilitation in 1993. Leisering has been Professor of Social Policy in Bielefeld since 1999.

Leisering's main research interests are poverty , old-age security , the sociology of the welfare state , international comparative social policy and global social policy, with a focus on new welfare states in Asia. Together with Stephan Leibfried and others, he introduced dynamic social welfare research based on longitudinal data in Germany. He also worked as a political advisor, u. a. for parliamentary groups in the German Bundestag, for GTZ and the government of the People's Republic of China. He is a founding member and board member of the Institute for World Society (IW), Bielefeld, applicant for the DFG Graduate School 844 “World Society - The Production and Representation of Globality” and the Bielefeld Graduate School in History and Sociology (BGHS, Excellence Initiative). He was a member of the Senate and Approval Committee of the DFG for Collaborative Research Centers (2004–2007). In 2003/2004 he was a fellow at the Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, Delmenhorst.
