Lutz Reitemeier (* 1963 in Stuttgart ) is a German cameraman who works in the field of feature films and documentaries .

Life

After finishing film school, Reitemeier completed an internship at Atlantic Film Hamburg, followed by many years of work as a camera assistant in the feature and documentary film sector, where he worked with directors such as Werner Herzog and Roland Emmerich . At the side of Karl Walter Lindenlaub he assisted his Swabian compatriot Emmerich on his last German film Moon 44 in 1990 . He later completed important years of apprenticeship with Jörg Schmidt-Reitwein as a camera assistant.

Lutz Reitemeier has been a national and international cameraman since 1994. His first works include u. a. the film The Survivors by Andres Veiel . Another early work by Reitemeier, which has received multiple awards, is Solveig Kassen's documentary Out of Tibet - A Love Between the Worlds . This was followed by three more documentaries in the People's Republic. During the Chinese New Year reception at the Berlinale 2000, he met director Wang Quan'an . Two years later, the two presented their first joint feature film The Story of Ermei there .

His third feature film in China and the second collaboration with Wang Quan'an led to the film Tuya's Wedding , which, made with Mongolian amateur actors, won the main prize of the 57th Berlin International Film Festival , the Golden Bear . Tuan Yuan followed in 2010 as the opening film for the Berlinale, which was awarded the Silver Bear.

In addition to feature films, Reitemeier also works on documentaries, plays and documentaries etc. a. with Julian Benedikt , Florian Gallenberger , Michael Hofmann , Haayfa al Mansour , Nir Bergman and Gordian Maugg . In 2012 he won the Silver Bear for outstanding artistic achievement for his camera work on Bai lu yuan ( White Deer Plain ). His feature film "The Wadjda Girl" was awarded the audience award at the Venice International Film Festival in 2012.

Lutz Reitemeier is u. a. Member of the German Film Academy, the Professional Association of Cinematography (BVK) and the Documentary Film Working Group (Ag Dok) and works as a lecturer at film schools in Germany and abroad.
