Lyndal Roper

Lyndal Roper (born May 28, 1956 in Melbourne ) is an Australian historian who teaches in Great Britain . Her research focus is the German cultural , religious and social history of the early modern period with a special focus on gender roles , body history , sexuality and the persecution of witches .

Life

Roper studied at the Universities of Melbourne and Tübingen and received his doctorate from King's College London . She has taught at Royal Holloway Colleges , London , Balliol College, Oxford , and currently Oriel College, Oxford .

In 2011 she became the first woman to be Regius Professor of History at Oxford University .

Awards

For 2016 she was awarded the Gerda Henkel Prize . In the same year she was elected a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences .
