The male choir of the Evangelical Free Church Community of Derschlag (short: Men's Choir Derschlag ; also: Derschlager Men's Choir or Men's Choir of the Baptist Congregation Derschlag ) was a vocal ensemble of male voices that had a formative influence on the German-speaking Christian choral music scene in the free church for several decades.
history
The male choir of the Derschlag Baptist Congregation was founded in 1882. In 1956, under the direction of Paul Speitmann, the choir was one of the first interpreters of the record label Happy Message in the Song . The singles were widely used in the Evangeliums-Rundfunk program , so that the Derschlag men's choir soon enjoyed a wide popularity throughout the German-speaking region. In 1964 Jürgen Speitmann took over the choir direction. Initial a cappella interpretations gave way to more contemporary arrangements over the decades under his direction. With a missionary focus in his self-image, an outreach took place every year at a selected tented evangelization event throughout Germany. In addition, the choir was able to assert itself as a relevant mouthpiece of the Christian music scene through close collaboration with the Canadian men's ensemble Wort-des-Lebens-Quartet from 1967 until the 1980s.
