Neighboring communities are Berg , Steinach , Tübach , Goldach , Untereggen , St. Gallen and Wittenbach .

history

The village first mentioned in 811 as Maurini vilare is located northeast of the city of St. Gallen and is considered a suburb of it. In the middle of the 19th century, Yenish families were naturalized on the basis of the law to combat homelessness .

In the last few years the community has developed from an agricultural structure to a classic suburban community. Typical signs are:

  • Enormous population growth from 1990 to 2004 of 34.9 percent
  • Low proportion of foreigners at around 8 percent
  • Lowest tax rate in the canton of St. Gallen at 75% (2018)
  • Good connection to the city of St. Gallen with the postbus lines 210 and 211 and its own train station
  • Infrastructures are geared towards the city: no swimming pool, etc.

In order to counter the danger of developing into a sleeping community, the community began early to promote the industry. The success of this policy is, for example, the settlement of companies such as swiss windows. But there are also numerous other commercial enterprises to be found.

Upper school

In the community of Mörschwil there is no secondary school, instead there is a grammar school, the Untere Waid, a private grammar school (with around 110 students) with federal Matura recognition. From 1924 to 2007 the school was run by the Order of the Fathers of La Salette . Today most of the teachers are lay people (non-religious). In August 2007 the school became a civil sponsor. The small school is considered very open to the world and is known for its good leadership by committed teachers. The Gymnasium and Untergymnasium are open to girls and boys of all denominations; the admission requirements are the same as those of the public grammar schools in the canton of St. Gallen.
