Múte Inequnaaluk Bourup Egede [ ˈmut͡sːi inɜquˈnaːluk ˈbou̯ʁɔb ˈeːəðə ] (born March 11, 1987 in Nuuk ) is a Greenlandic politician of the Inuit Ataqatigiit socialist party .

life and career

Múte B. Egede was born in Nuuk and grew up in Narsaq . He is the son of Otto Egede (* 1955) and Ellen Bang Bourup. He comes from the shepherd family Egede. Through his father he is a grandson of Erik Egede (1923–1967), a nephew of Kaj Egede (1951–2013) and a great-great-grandson of John Møller (1867–1935). Múte has two children with his partner Tina Chemnitz.

Múte B. Egede began studying cultural and social history at the University of Greenland in 2007 , but did not finish it as he took over his family business in 2013 .

In 2007 he sat in the youth parliament . From 2011 to 2012 he was vice chairman of the student association KISAQ . From 2013 to 2015 he was chairman of the Inuusuttut Ataqatigiit, the youth organization of the Inuit Ataqatigiit. In the same year he also became a member of the party executive committee and in 2015 party vice chairman.

In the 2014 election , he reached the first place of his party. He also ran for the 2015 Folketing election , but had to admit defeat to Aaja Chemnitz Larsen , whose seat in Inatsisartut he then took over. In October 2016 he was appointed raw materials minister in the Kielsen II cabinet. From January to April 2017 he also took over the ministry for municipalities, villages, infrastructure and housing on an interim basis.

In the 2018 election , Múte was elected directly to Inatsisartut for the first time. On December 1, 2018, he was elected to succeed Sara Olsvig, who resigned in October 2018, as party leader of the Inuit Ataqatigiit. Under his leadership, the party emerged as the strongest force in the 2021 election , receiving the most votes. He is therefore allowed to lead the coalition talks in order to govern Greenland from now on.
