The Mülheim Garden Show , also called Mülheims Garten an der Ruhr , was the third state garden show in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1992. Today, the 66 hectare MüGa Park in the Mülheim district of Broich is used as a green and leisure facility.

The MüGa-Park extends directly on the left bank of the Ruhr , essentially between the castle bridge and the city viaduct of the former Rheinische Bahn. The town hall and the Ruhrbania urban development project are on the opposite side .

For the state horticultural show, industrial wastelands, a scrapyard and former railway systems of the lower Ruhr Valley Railway were dismantled or converted. The roundhouse and Broich water tower (with a camera obscura and the museum on the prehistory of the film ) have been preserved from the railway . In addition, the Broich Castle , the Heinrich-Thöne-Volkshochschule, the Mülheimer Stadthalle , the Darlington-Park, the Kfar-Saba-Brücke over the Bergstrasse ( B 223 ), various themed gardens, the European pavilion and several playgrounds (also Mud and water playgrounds).

A shuttle train service called MüGa-Wiesel was set up for visitors on part of the former Osterath – Dortmund railway line to the city center and, in particular, to Mülheim main station. After the garden show ended, passenger traffic was stopped and the platform systems were completely dismantled.

In addition, the planners of the state garden show, the landscape architects Horst Wagenfeld and Wolfgang Mueller, created connections between the historically significant places in Mülheim ( Styrum Castle, Broich Castle and Saarn Cistercian Monastery ). The maximum extension of the MüGa Park to Saarn is seven kilometers. A total of fourteen bridges were built for the state horticultural show.

Admission to the park is free, a fee is only charged for special attractions or major events. The MüGa-Park takes part in the ExtraSchicht , among other things .
