Mülldorf is a district of the city of Sankt Augustin in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia , North Rhine-Westphalia . From 1816 to 1969 the place formed the independent municipality of Siegburg-Mülldorf . Earlier names were also Oeckmüllendorp, Moelendorp, Mölendorp, Mulendorp, Mühldorf, Mulindorf, Müllendorf and Mullendorp. The name is derived from a water mill that was built on the left bank of the Sieg by monks from Siegburg Abbey . It is no longer known where the mill was located. The mayor of Mülldorf is Heinz-Peter Schumacher.

geography

In the north the Sieg marks the border with Siegburg , in the east Mülldorf borders on Niederpleis , in the south on Sankt Augustin-Ort and in the west on Menden .

history

The settlement of the Mülldorf area goes back to at least 500 BC. BC, which urn finds on Bonner Strasse confirm.

From the 7th century onwards, the land on the traffic connection between Bonn and Siegburg was used as a hamlet settlement. Between the 10th and 13th centuries, the individual farms grew together to form settlements. Meanwhile, around 1070, the Siegburg Abbey for Mulendorp and Mulindorp, when the land was handed over by the Archbishop of Cologne, Anno II , issued the first founding document . The name comes from a mill that was built by the monks of the abbey on the left bank of the Sieg.

In 1844, the traffic connection between Bonn and Siegburg was expanded as a paved road. 55 years later, Mülldorf was connected to the Bröltalbahn network, which brought connections to Beuel, Hennef, Ruppichteroth, the Siebengebirge, Siegburg, Waldbröl and parts of what is now Rhineland-Palatinate. The routes were abandoned in 1954 and 1967, respectively, and the restaurant used as a station building was demolished in 2013.

In 1906, the municipality of Siegburg-Mülldorf had to hand over the parts of the municipality of Hornpott and Zange, which were on the right bank of the Sieg, to Siegburg, so that Sieg became the new municipality boundary. On August 1, 1969, the municipal reorganization resulted in the large municipality of Sankt Augustin (which is now a town), to which Mülldorf also belongs. Mülldorf gave up areas for parts of the new Sankt Augustin-Ort community.

Religions

Roman Catholic

Catholic parish church of St. Mary's Visitation (Gottfried-Salz-Straße)

Mülldorf is part of the Archdiocese of Cologne . Since January 1, 2011, all St. Augustinian parishes have belonged to the St. Augustin pastoral care area in the Rhein-Sieg district dean . Until 2010 there was the pastoral care community Sankt Augustin - Untere Sieg, consisting of the communities in Meindorf , Menden and Mülldorf. The merger took place because the number of Catholics and priests is declining, churches and ecclesiastical facilities are hardly used and these are no longer tenable for economic reasons. The main task of the church community is to preserve, protect and care for the “small living spaces” of the “parishes”.

The parish church of the same name in Gottfried-Salz-Straße, the parish center with library and the Sternschnuppe kindergarten in Pfarrweg as well as the elementary school St. Martin in Gartenstraße are facilities of the Church Community of St. Mary's Visitation .

Parish vicar residing in Mülldorf has been the former Provincial of the Steyler Missionaries , Bernd Werle , since July 1, 2018 .

Evangelical

The districts of Mülldorf and Niederpleis are combined in the Evangelical Church Community of Sankt Augustin Niederpleis and Mülldorf. The parish is part of the parish "An Sieg und Rhein", which in turn is a parish of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland (EKIR). In the conception of the parish you can read that they have agreed to increasingly expand voluntary work, carry out more events, work more together with other institutions, and expand youth work.

The facilities include the Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Haus in the street of the same name, as well as the common kindergarten Menschenkinder and a library in Schulstraße in Niederpleis.

population

development

Mülldorf more than doubled its population between 1969 and 2002 and has the highest population growth with Niederpleis . This development is probably due to the construction of the high-rise buildings.

In 1969 Mülldorf had 3,852 inhabitants (11.93% of the inhabitants of Sankt Augustin), in 2002 it had 8,757 (15.29% of the inhabitants of Sankt Augustin). Particularly high growth can be seen between 1969 and 1975 (1,815 moved) when the municipal reorganization was carried out, and between 1985 and 1990 (2,402 moved), when the high-rise buildings were probably inhabited.

Culture and sights

Buildings

Worth seeing in Mülldorf is the Lindenhof on Bonner Strasse, which has now been restored as a restaurant. Also interesting is Gut Friedrichstein on Schulstrasse, which was built around 1923 by the then architect and brickworks owner Fritz Becker. Both buildings are under monument protection.

Regular events

May custom

Every year on April 30th, a tall, decorated maypole is set up by the Mülldorf Maiclub on the meadow behind the parish church of St. Mary's Visitation . A turntable ladder vehicle from the volunteer fire brigade is still there to ensure stability. On the Pfarrwiese there is also a large tent in which u. a. the dance is celebrated in May.

Every year there is a sale of the May brides. All “virgins”, i.e. unmarried girls aged 16 and over, are auctioned off among the bachelors. In this way, a pair of May kings as well as a 1st and 2nd couple of counts are determined. There is also a so-called Rötzjesvadder (also May father). The highest bidders in the May sale are the respective couple until next year. The May Festival is celebrated in honor of the May King couple.

Bachelors give their loved ones a more or less large “Mai”, ie they decorate a birch or at least a birch branch and attach it to the house or window of the chosen one. The latter usually also has a heart sawn from wood and painted red with the name of the beloved. The maypole and may are only broken off or taken down at the end of the month. Then you get a case of beer if you are "undesirable" or if it is just a friendship tree, but with branches it is only a bottle of beer.

The LZ Mülldorf has 4 vehicles: a command vehicle ( ELW 1 ), which has radio and documents ready and in which the operation is coordinated, a fire fighting group vehicle ( LF 8/6 ), which picks up the team and provides the equipment for the fire, and a Tank fire engine ( TLF 16/25 ), in order to be able to cover a larger demand for water, it is equipped with a water-foam ring monitor, but also devices for technical assistance such as spreader and cut-off grinder are loaded on the TLF, and an aerial rescue vehicle ( DLK 23-12 nB ), which can be used to rescue people from higher floors, as well as to support the internal attack during fire fighting.
