Morris Blaine Peterson (born March 26, 1906 in Ogden , Utah , † July 15, 1985 there ) was an American politician . Between 1961 and 1963 he represented the first constituency of the state of Utah in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Blaine Peterson attended public schools in his home country. He then studied at the University of Utah until 1931 . This was followed by a law degree at the law school of Georgetown University until 1938 . After graduation, Peterson worked for some time for Eugene E. Pratt , a judge on the Utah Supreme Court. Since 1941 he worked as an independent lawyer.

Promotion to Congressman

Peterson became a member of the Democratic Party . From 1955 to 1957 he was a Member of the Utah Parliament. He also became a district attorney in Weber County . In 1960 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in the first constituency of Utah, at the same time as the election of Democrat John F. Kennedy as US President , where he replaced Republican Henry Aldous Dixon on January 3, 1961 . Since Peterson was defeated by Republican Laurence J. Burton in the next election , he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1963 .

Another résumé

After retiring from Congress, Peterson became an advisor to the director of the Food for Peace program in 1963 . From 1968 to 1969 he was a member of the Great Salt Lake Authority . He was also the chairman of the Weber County's Taxpayers Association.
