The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is a cricket stadium in the Indian city of Bangalore , Karnataka state . It was named after the former president of the Indian Cricket Association (BCCI) Mangalam Chinnaswamy. Previously the stadium was known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium (KSCA Stadium). In addition to numerous international cricket matches , it is used, among other things, as the home stadium of the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League . In addition to cricket events, other cultural and musical events take place here, such as the election for Miss World 1996 .
Capacity & Infrastructure
The stadium has 42,000 seats and is equipped with a floodlight system that was installed for the 1996 Cricket World Cup . The ends are called Pavilion End and BEML End.
International cricket
The first test match was held here from November 22nd to 29th, 1974 between India and the West Indies . Since then it has been used repeatedly for games by the Indian national cricket team. Among other things, one game each at the Cricket World Cup 1987 and Cricket World Cup 1996 and five preliminary round games at the Cricket World Cup 2011 were played here.
Use in the IPL
The Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise has played its home games here since the IPL was founded in 2008 . The exception was the 2009 season, when the tournament was moved to South Africa for security reasons.
