The MaK G 1206 locomotive is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive that was developed by Maschinenbau Kiel (MaK) . MaK was bought by Vossloh in 1998 and has been operating as Vossloh Locomotives ever since. The axis order of the MaK G 1206 is B'B '. It has an output of either 1500 kW or 1570 kW and, depending on the version, reaches a maximum speed of up to 100 km / h. Engines from Caterpillar or MTU Friedrichshafen are installed . Depending on the equipment variant, it has a service weight of 84 t to 90 t. Your tank capacity is 3150 l.

In the German vehicle settings register , the series numbers 92 80 1275 (up to 100 km / h maximum speed) and 1276 (over 100 km / h) are provided for the MaK G 1206.

commitment

G 1206 as BB 61000 of the SNCF fret

The MaK G 1206 can be used in heavy shunting and road service. It was built for the first time in 1997 and has been sold to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg (as CFL series 1500), Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and France. 23 locomotives alone are running as BB 61000s for SNCF , six of them with MTU engines.

The first built 1206 was delivered to RBH Logistics in July 1997. It runs there under the company number "801". In 2006 and 2007 a further 20 locomotives were delivered to Seco-Rail in France. All 20 locomotives are equipped with an MTU engine ( 12V 4000 R41 ). In 2006–2008, Railion Deutschland rented some MaK G 1206s and classified them under the class 266 (a collective term for various rented locomotive types). However, the series designation and the serial number are not attached to the locomotive. Four MaK G 1206 diesel locomotives are in use at the Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft based in Karlsruhe .

Locomotives were delivered not only to Germany, Austria and Switzerland, but also on a larger scale to France, as well as the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Italy and Spain.

Technical specifications

The powerful engine made a powerful cooling system with two cooling towers necessary. This made the locomotive longer than its predecessor. The first locomotives for RAG and the Dortmund Railway had the conventional MaK bogies and were approved for 80 km / h. The locomotives supplied for the Swedish Banverket had new bogies with steering wheel sets. This enabled a top speed of 100 km / h. The locomotives with a Caterpillar engine have slightly higher and wider engine stems.

Further developments

Vossloh G 1700 BB as locomotive VIII of the Neuss Railway in Kaldenkirchen
MaK G 1206-2 as E&H locomotive 603 in Moers

A further development of the MaK G 1206 is the Vossloh G 1700 BB. First and foremost, the frame was changed so that the Vossloh standard bogies could be used. The locomotives were motorized with the MTU 12V 4000 R20 with an unchanged output of 1500 kW. Only six locomotives were built here, two of them with Spanish broad gauge (1668 mm).

The G 1700-2 BB, on the other hand, is a completely new development.

The G 1206-2, on the other hand, is a modified version of the original G 1206 for shunting service. It is equipped with Caterpillar engines with just 920 kW and correspondingly smaller Voith gearboxes. It also only has one fan wheel. Their top speed has been reduced to 50 km / h.
