Macintosh Classic

The Macintosh Classic is a personal computer company Apple and was made of 15 October 1990 to 14 September 1,992th It was the first Apple Macintosh to sell for less than US $ 1,000.

The Classic replaced the popular Macintosh Plus and Macintosh SE models . Like these two models, it had a Motorola 68000 processor , but it was also the last Apple model to use it. It is very similar to the SE in terms of architecture, performance and other properties, but was able to be manufactured more cheaply due to innovations in manufacturing. Like the SE, it has a monochrome 9 " CRT screen with a resolution of 512 × 342 pixels. The main memory was firmly soldered to the motherboard and was one megabyte in size, but could be expanded to up to 4 MB with a special expansion card Classic offered a few enhancements over the Macintosh Plus and replaced it as Apple's low-end computer, was up to 25% faster and included an Apple SuperDrive floppy disk drive as standard.

It was an adaptation of Jerry Manocks and Terry Oyama's design of the Macintosh 128k . The Classic appeared in two versions in the price segment from just under $ 1,000 up to $ 1,500. The reactions of the computer users were divided; many were bothered by the relatively slow processor and the lack of expansion options. The popular belief was that it would only be useful for word processing and spreadsheets. However, the low price and the availability of educational software made the Classic a popular computer for the school sector.
