List of grape varieties
Drawing from Rudolf Goethe : Handbuch der Tafeltraubenkultur, 1894

The white grape variety Madeleine Royale was bred in 1845 by the French Moreau-Robert from an unknown seedling. Earlier assumptions that it was his breeding development of the early Burgundy or the black Riesling were refuted by DNA analyzes. Madeleine Royale was seen as a breed from the Chasselas (Gutedel) shape , but has been considered a cross between Pinot and Trollinger since an investigation in 2009 . It is mainly used as a table grape and also as an ornamental grape and is grown in small quantities in England , Argentina , Austria and Romania . The variety ripens 8–15 days earlier than the Gutedel and can therefore be harvested in certain areas as early as the end of July. The name Madeleine is an allusion to this time of maturity, as the name day of Magdalena falls on July 22nd.

Ampelographic features

The very early ripening variety has large, very compact grapes. Due to its compactness, the variety is very sensitive to powdery mildew and raw rot . The berries are very sensitive to transport and usually have to be harvested in a slightly unripe state. Therefore, the variety is rarely found. Due to their very early maturity she was a popular crossing partner of new varieties such as Madeleine Angevine , Primus , the splendor of grapes and Müller-Thurgau .
