The Main Crater is, as the name suggests, the 3750 m high main crater of the Mount Erebus volcano on the Antarctic Ross Island . The Inner Crater located in this crater forms the actual summit of the volcano and is home to an anorthoclase - phonolithic lava lake .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names gave the crater its descriptive name in 2000 .
