Mainhatten Skywheelers has been the name of German basketball teams from Frankfurt am Main since the 2009/10 season , which is sponsored by the RSC Frankfurt . The first team played in the wheelchair basketball Bundesliga (RBBL) until the 2015/2016 season and was German champion three times.

Naming

The name refers to the skyline of Frankfurt, the only city in Germany whose city is reminiscent of the appearance of Manhattan . Instead of the prefix Man ... the current flowing through Frankfurt was Main inserted. Why, however, from ... hattan the misspelling had ... was, is not known. In addition, the name was derived from the name of the Skyliners Frankfurt and the wheelchairs used by the Mainhatten Skywheelers.

The team logo, created especially for the Mainhatten Skywheelers , shows, against the black backdrop of the Frankfurt skyline, an aggressively figured red basketball in comic style on silver wheelchair wheels with a fist pointing at the viewer, including the rounded team name in capital letters in two lines .

• 1995 - A mixed team from the RSCF competed in basketball against the 2nd Bundesliga team from TV Langen (pedestrians) on the TV program Hessen-Report of the RTL on October 21 .

Training and venue

• The Mainhatten Skywheelers teams train and play in the gym of the Franz-Böhm-Schule (formerly Wilhelm-Merton-Sporthalle), Eichendorffstraße 77, Einfahrt Raimundstraße 99, 60320 Frankfurt am Main.

Wheelchair basketball association

In October 2005, the Friends of Wheelchair Basketball Rhein-Main was founded to provide targeted support to young people and senior citizens of this sport who are members of the RSC Frankfurt. It is about rehabilitation as well as popular and competitive sports.

In order to implement the most target-oriented funding measures possible, the development association focuses on institutional and private sponsoring, specifically recruits members for a support group and looks for sponsors and advertising partners for the Bundesliga team of the RSC.
