Maitreyanatha

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maitreyanatha ( skt . : Maitreyanātha ; Tib . : byams pa'i mgon po ; German : Protector Maitreya , also: who is protected by Maitreya ) is one of the three founders of the Yogacara School of Buddhist Philosophy , alongside Asanga and Vasubandhu .

It is not clear whether Maitreyanatha was a contemporary and teacher of Asanga in the 4th century , or whether Asanga wrote under the spiritual name Maitreyanatha. In Chinese and Tibetan Buddhism a different number of works are ascribed to Maitreyanatha . The best known are the Five Dharmas of Maitreya (Tib .: byams chos sde lnga ).
