Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim is a real-time strategy game developed by Cyberlore Studios . The game was released on March 17, 2000 by Hasbro Interactive under the trademark MicroProse for Windows and in December 2000 by MacPlay for Mac OS . In March 2001, Infogrames launched the Majesty: The Northern Expansion for Windows. On January 2, 2002, both parts of the game were released by Infogrames for Windows as Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim - Gold Edition . For Linux , the Gold Edition was released on April 25, 2003. On March 21, 2012, Paradox Interactive re-released it as Majesty: Gold HD .

In Majesty , the player takes on the role of a king in the fantasy realm of Ardania, who must try to master the tasks that are given to him by recruiting heroes. It is true monsters like giant rats , rat-men, goblins , skeletons , zombies , rust eaters, birds Roc , giant spiders , Varg, Höllbären, werewolves , trolls , tree nymphs , harpies , medusas , minotaurs , vampires , tree demons, evil oculi, stone golems and dragons to defeat . The game has nineteen freely selectable single player scenarios and a random card generator. The expansion The Northern Expansion offers new abilities for units, new buildings, new monsters, a further twelve single player scenarios and an extended random map generator.

Gameplay

The player must use his gold to build buildings through which he can recruit heroes. The heroes earn gold by killing monsters, which they can use to purchase better equipment in buildings that have also been built (e.g. blacksmiths). The paid gold can in turn be collected by the tax collector. All units are not directly controllable, but look for their own tasks, whereby you can indirectly influence the behavior of the heroes by offering rewards for killing monsters or exploring the map.

There are four different basic units that ensure the successful establishment of the kingdom: the vassals who build buildings, the city guards who defend buildings against monsters, the tax collectors who collect gold and the caravans, which also generate gold depending on the distance covered between the trading post and the marketplace .

Each scenario offers a unique map, which is generated differently even if the player restarts the scenario, apart from the basic terrain type. The map is initially undetected, but once explored all activities can be observed without the fog of war .

In most scenarios, the player must withstand attacking monsters and / or destroy their homes. Every now and then, however, a computer gamer is at his side or he has to assert himself against him.

Buildings and Heroes

The basic building is the palace. If this is destroyed, the player loses the game. Guilds and temples can be built to hire heroes. Almost all other buildings are used to offer the heroes equipment or services (inn, royal park, tournament ground, etc.). Some guilds or temples cannot coexist and some buildings require other buildings before they can be erected. Normal guilds that can be built are the crooks guild, the rangers guild, the warriors guild and the wizards guild. Temples that can be built are the Agrela temple (healers), the Dauros temple (monks), the Fervus temple (cultists), the Helia temple (Solari), the Krolm temple (barbarians), the crypt -Temples (priestesses) and the Lunord Temple (adepts). Agrela or Dauros temples cannot be built together with Fervus or Crypt temples. A Helia temple cannot be built together with a Lunord temple and Krolm temples cannot be built together with any other temples. If you opt for the Dauros Temple, paladins can be hired in the warriors' guild. If you choose the Fervus Temple, there are warriors of contradiction available. All temples and also the wizards guild offer spells. Upgrading these buildings (not possible with the Krolm Temple) unlocks additional spells that can be used for gold. The non-human heroes that can be hired include the gnomes, who can build masterfully, the elves with their arcades and elven bars, and the dwarves with their slingshot buildings, with only one of the three races willing to support the kingdom.

Each type of hero has its own preferences. Paladins z. B. often choose to attack monsters' dwellings, while crooks prefer to plunder them and are always most likely to seek rewards. Elves tend to act as bards in different buildings, rangers like to explore the wilderness and Solari like to defend sentry boxes. Cultists have the ability to convert monsters, while priestesses raise skeletons from their cadavers. All heroes have different names and can gain experience and level up.

Sequels

In 2009, Majesty 2: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim was released . In 2011 a mobile version for Android, bada, BlackBerry, iPad, iPhone, J2ME and Windows Phone was released.
