The Malokarpatská vinohradnícka oblasť (German Kleinkarpatisches wine region ) is located in the West of Slovakia and comprises 12 viticulture districts (Slovak vinohradnícke rajóny ) which (in Slovak further 119 viticulture communities vinohradnícke obce ) are divided. As of December 31, 2006, the area of the registered vineyards was 5,935 ha. Due to different climatic and soil conditions, this wine-growing area is divided into three large areas:

  1. Area in the Záhorie , between the northwestern part of the Little Carpathians and the Morava , along the Myjava River . The center of this part is Skalica , known for red wine . In contrast to the other parts, the soils are sandy or formed by the fluvial sediments.
  2. Area on the south-west, south-east and east slopes of the Little Carpathians, from Bratislava to Horné Orešany , as well as a small area around Stupava . In the narrower sense, this part is meant as a small Carpathian wine-growing region. Here the soils are loamy, geologically alluvial cones of the Small Carpathian streams are also significant. In addition to Bratislava, important centers are also Pezinok and Modra . In the central part between Svätý Jur to Častá white wine dominates , elsewhere red wine.
  3. Area in the lowlands and hills east of the Little Carpathians. In contrast to the previously mentioned parts, viticulture is of much more recent origin. In this part the loess soils dominate. Centers are located in Trnava , Hlohovec and Čachtice .

In order to improve marketing for Slovak and foreign visitors, the region's wine producers founded the Malokarpatská vínna cesta (German Small Carpathian Wine Route), which leads from Bratislava to Trnava via Svätý Jur, Pezinok and Modra.
