The von schrenck's bittern ( Ixobrychus eurhythmus ) is an Asian relative of the little bittern from the family of herons .

features

It is a small heron with a body length of 33 to 39 cm. Their plumage is rust-brown in color with a light belly. The bill and legs are yellow. In addition, a sexual dimorphism occurs in this species , since the male, unlike the female, has a maroon back.

distribution

The red bobble is a migratory bird . It breeds in eastern China , southeastern Siberia , northern Korea, and Japan . The wintering areas are in southern China as well as in Thailand , Malaysia , Indonesia and the Philippines . It lives mainly in the reed and reed areas of wetlands. It is still relatively common in its home country and is therefore not considered to be threatened.

Way of life

The crepuscular bumblebee eats small fish, frogs, crustaceans and insects. The nest is built in the dense reed bed on or just above the ground. Three to six eggs are incubated for 16 to 18 days.
