Manfred Streit

Manfred E. Streit (born February 16, 1939 in Goch ; † February 18, 2017 ) was a German economist . He studied at Saarland University , where he worked for Herbert Giersch . Streit completed his habilitation at the University of Mannheim . In 1990 he accepted a professorship from the University of Freiburg in order to conduct research in the Freiburg tradition of professorships following the work of Friedrich August von Hayek . In 1993, Streit founded the Max Planck Institute for Economics in Jena. Since 2000 he has been a retired scientific member there.

Streit was a member of the Verein für Socialpolitik , the Mont Pelerin Society and the Walter Eucken Institute . He was a founding member of the Friedrich A. von Hayek Society and recipient of the Hayek Medal.

From 1989 to 2009, Streit was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry of Economics .
