Manfred Geist

Manfred Geist (born September 23, 1939 in Harheim , † July 20, 1997 in Hamburg ) was a German journalist .

Life

Geist started as a trainee at Wirtschaftswoche in 1966 . He later became deputy editor-in-chief. In 1974 he switched to Axel Springer Verlag . He then acted as deputy editor-in-chief at the Illustrierte Bunte . From 1979 to 1994 he was editor-in-chief of the newspaper Welt am Sonntag together with Claus Jacobi . Afterwards he was the editorial director of Welt and Welt am Sonntag . In 1995 he became the sole editor-in-chief of Welt am Sonntag and in 1996 publisher of the newspaper.

Geist was a reserve officer in the paratrooper troops and was a member of the Inner Leadership Advisory Board . At Die Welt , he founded the “Bundeswehr and Society” forum. For this he received the Bundeswehr Cross of Honor in gold.
