The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (short Mangaung ) is a Metropolitan Municipality in the South African province of Free State . In 2011, the year it was founded, the population was 747,431 on a total area of ​​6,284 km². The seat of the municipal administration is Bloemfontein . Mayor is Olly Mlamleli ( African National Congress ).

The community name is the Sesotho word for cheetah place .

2016 came Municipality Naledi and the place Soutpan from the community Masilonyana Local Municipality to Mangaung. Thus the area increased to over 9700 square kilometers. The population had increased in 2016 to 787,803 people in 265,561 households.
