Manic Monday (Engl. For Crazy Monday ) is a 1985 song by The Bangles , which Prince wrote , composed , arranged and produced under the pseudonym "Christopher" . The piece is included on the album Different Light by The Bangles and was released on December 23, 1985 as the pre-release of the album.

history

In 1984 Prince wrote the song, which was originally intended as a duet with Apollonia 6 . However, he later offered the song The Bangles after listening to their album All Over the Place . The band then recorded the song in 1985 in the Sunset Sound Factory studio , closely following Prince's arrangement of the demo version.

The text of Manic Monday is about a woman who hates Mondays because that's when the work week starts and she prefers to daydream on the weekend instead. The melody of the song in the verse is in part almost identical to that of the 1999 Prince title . In June 2019, Prince's original version of Manic Monday was released on the Originals album.

Music video

The music video was directed by Leslie Libman. The plot of the music video corresponds to the lyrics of the song. At the beginning, in fadeouts for the dream sequences , we see alarm clocks, a beach, Susanna Hoffs lying in bed with a man and a calendar that shows Mondays. Then the Bangles perform the song in a park, while Susanna Hoffs rushes to work by various means of transport such as cars, buses and trains. She writes reports at work. At the end of the video, the calendar from the beginning is displayed again.
