Manlio Rocchetti

Manlio Rocchetti (born November 28, 1943 in Rome , † January 9, 2017 in Tequesta , United States ) was an Italian make- up artist . In 1990 he won an Oscar and until his death worked as a lecturer at the Accademia Nazionale del Cinema in Bologna .

Life

Manlio Rocchetti came from a family of makeup artists, his parents were Silvano Rocchetti and his wife Ferdinanda Centi. His grandfather Giuseppe Rocchetti was a make-up artist at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and was active in the supply business of mask supplies, for example at the Venice Carnival in 1874. His children continued the business, including Manlio's father Silvano. Manlio's brother Luigi Rocchetti also works as a make-up artist for film. In 1965766 he worked as a makeup artist for the first time. He began working as a makeup artist in Italian films in the 1960s. He later moved to the USA.

One of Manlio's students is the hairdresser Aldo Signoretti . With him, Rocchetti was nominated for the 2003 British Academy Film Award for Best Mask for his work on Gangs of New York .

In 1989 he received the Emmy Award for his mask in the Lonesome Dove series .

In 1990 , Manlio Rocchetti, together with Lynn Barber and Kevin Haney, received an Oscar for Miss Daisy and her chauffeur in the category of best make-up .

Around 2011 he started teaching makeup artists at the Accademia Nazionale del Cinema in Bologna.

He died at home in 2017 when he passed out from bronchitis and fell into the pool. He left behind a wife, makeup artist Linda V. Melazzo and two children.
