Mantus is a music project from the black scene that was founded by Martin Schindler around 1997. The band name is derived from the underworld god of the same name, the Etruscans .
history
Mantus has developed into a highly regarded band in its band history. Many of her songs have appeared on compilations, but the big breakthrough did not materialize, so that Mantus was not particularly successful commercially and was never represented in the charts.
Although Mantus had existed as a solo project by Martin Schindler for a long time, the first album "Liebe und Tod" was only released in 2000 when his sister Tina (who appears under the stage name "Thalia") joined the project. With it the alternating male and female singing could be realized, which contributes significantly to the "dark romanticism" - as Martin Schindler calls it. Since the band consisted only of these two people and often had to rely on guest musicians, Mantus never performed live until 2009.
Mantus temporarily disbanded in early 2005. With the "Chronik" -Best of the band said goodbye to the active music business on May 5, 2006. The musicians wanted to take a new direction that was incompatible with Mantus. As a successor, the band Sepia was founded in 2005 , in which you can find Martin Schindler and Thalia. The Black Heaven project , which was also founded by Martin Schindler, ran parallel to Mantus right from the start .
At the end of 2008 Mantus was revived with the usual line-up, released a new album in 2009 with “Requiem” and performed live for the first time at the 5th Amphi Festival in Cologne.
In April 2012, Tina Schindler's departure from the Mantus project was announced; her successor is Chiara Amberia.
With 16 (regular) studio albums published to date, Mantus is one of the performers within the black scene who have released the most albums.
style
music
The music is often perceived as melancholy, moody and melodious. The alternation between Martin and Thalia's vocals and the hard metal guitars, which partially shift the band's work into the dark metal or doom metal area, are striking.
Texts
The mostly German-language texts deal with topics such as love, death, eternity or immortality. However, there is also a place for socially critical problems, such as racism , xenophobia and rape , which are appropriately addressed in the titles. For example, at the beginning of the song Utopia there is a passage from Joseph Goebbels ' speech in which he calls for total war.
