Maonan

The Maonan (Chinese: 毛南族, outdated and replaced because of discriminatory connotations: 毛 难 族, Pinyin (for both): Máonánzú ) are one of the 55 officially recognized minorities in the People's Republic of China . According to the last census in 2010, they counted 101,192 people. Most of them live in the Guangxi Autonomous Region of the Zhuang Nationality.

The Maonan language belongs to the Kam-Sui group of the Tai-Kadai languages . It is only used by a minority of the Maonan (around 30,000). Incidentally, the Maonan speak Mandarin and Zhuang .

About 80% of the population have the surname Tan .
