Marc Meneau (born October 27, 1943 in Avallon ) is a French chef.

Career

Meneau studied from 1961 at the Strasbourg hotel management school Lycée hôtelier de Strasbourg . In 1966 he took over his mother's grocery store in Saint-Père-sous-Vézelay and also opened a restaurant there.

He received his first Michelin star in 1972 and moved to a larger restaurant in the same town of Saint-Père, which he named L'Espérance . In 1975 he was awarded his second Michelin star. In 1983 his restaurant received the maximum three stars in the Michelin Guide and 19 out of 20 points in Gault Millau , which also named him “Best French Chef of the Year”. He planted 16 hectares of Chardonnay vines to revive the white wine Bourgogne-vézelay AOC .

In 1999 he lost his third Michelin star, but got it back in 2004 for four years. In 2004 he teamed up with the industrialist François Schneider, founded the Société des Domaines de L'Espérance et du Roncemay (Sder) and opened the leisure and gourmet complex Les domaines de l'Espérance et in the canton of Aillant-sur-Tholon you Roncemay . This investment put Meneau in financial trouble. In January 2007, the company Sder filed for bankruptcy .

Meneau has been awarded two Michelin stars since 2008. In 2010 he opened his own vegetable garden with certified organic products.

In February 2015, his restaurant was insolvent with seven million euros in debt and had to be closed. In November 2016, the restaurant was taken over by Hôtel & Food Disrpt Partners , founded by Alain Ducasse and Guillaume Multrier. Marc Meneau and his son Pierre were to work as consultants for three years.
