Marc Pfertzel (born May 21, 1981 in Mulhouse ) is a French former soccer player who was most recently under contract with SV Sandhausen .

Career

Pfertzel is a full-back who can also be used in the right midfield or as a left-back. He comes from the youth department of FC Mulhouse . From there he moved to Switzerland in 1997 for FC Basel , where he stayed until the end of 2000. For the second half of 2000/01 Pfertzel joined FC Sochaux , but left the club again at the end of the season for Ligue 2 club ES Troyes AC . At the beginning of the 2002/03 season he signed a contract with third division club FC Sète 34 . In July 2003 he went to Italy for AS Livorno . With this club, Pfertzel rose to Serie A in 2004 and was a regular there.

For the 2007/08 season he moved to Germany and joined the Bundesliga for VfL Bochum . He signed a four-year contract that was valid for the first and second Bundesliga. In his first season for VfL Bochum, he made 28 appearances and three assists; at the end of the season there was relegation. On September 14, 2008 he scored his first goal for VfL in a 2-0 win against Arminia Bielefeld on the fourth match day. Pfertzel came to 28 missions and two assists and two goals each; at the end of the season was again relegation. In the following season he only played 18 times and was relegated from the Bundesliga with VfL Bochum. In the first half of the 2010/11 second division season, Pfertzel only played three times.

In the winter of 2011, Pfertzel moved to the Greek first division club AO Kavala . On January 16, 2011 he made his debut for AO Kavala in the 2: 4 defeat on the 18th matchday in the away game against Panathinaikos Athens . Seven days later he scored his first goal on matchday 19 against Iraklis Thessaloniki with the goal to make it 3-0 in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Pfertzel played in eleven games and scored one goal.

Marc Pfertzel returned to Germany in summer 2011 and signed a contract with 1. FC Union Berlin for the 2. Bundesliga. He made his debut on July 15, 2011 in a 1-1 draw on the first day of the 2011/12 season in the away game against FSV Frankfurt . On November 25, 2011 Pfertzel scored his first goal for 1. FC Union Berlin by scoring 1-0 in the 49th minute in a 5-2 win on matchday 16 at FC Hansa Rostock . With the Berlin team he was one of the regulars in his debut season and played 29 league games in which he scored a goal. In the following season he played in 27 games and also scored one goal. Pfertzel played 31 times in the 2013/14 season.

After three years at Union, Pfertzel moved to league rivals SV Sandhausen for the 2014/15 season . On August 10, 2014, he made his debut in a 1-1 draw on the second match day against 1. FC Kaiserslautern ; he played 78 minutes and was then replaced by Lukas Kübler . At the end of the season he ended his career after only eight league appearances for Sandhausen.
