Marcelo Aguirre
Marcelo Aguirre (born January 21, 1993 in Asunción ) is a Paraguayan table tennis player . So far (as of 2019) he is the youngest table tennis player who has ever participated in the Olympic Games.
Career
Marcelo Aguirre qualified in 2008 to take part in the individual competition at the Beijing Olympic Games . He was then 15 years and 211 days old, making him the youngest table tennis player at the Olympic Games (as of 2019). He was eliminated in the preliminary round against the North Korean Jang Song-Man. In 2012 he went back to singles at the Olympic Games . Here he also lost the first game against Oleksandr Didukh from Ukraine.
Marcelo Aguirre was nominated for the table tennis world championships in 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2013, but never came close to medal ranks. In 2011 he finished second in the singles of the Latin American Cup.
In the 2018/19 season he played in the German Bundesliga for TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau , after which he was signed by Werder Bremen .
