Marco Börries (* 1. August 1968 ) is a German IT - entrepreneurs .

Life

Inspired by a student exchange in Silicon Valley during his school days at the Oedeme High School , Marco Börries founded Star Division as a garage company in Lüneburg at the age of 16 . With her he drove the first developed by friends software StarWriter (from the Star Office and later OpenOffice.org was) as an alternative to the office suites from Microsoft . StarOffice has been sold over 25 million times. On August 5, 1999, Börries sold Star Division for a high double-digit million amount (US dollars) to Sun Microsystems and worked there for a short time.

While the Star Division was being set up, Börries founded the Hamburg-based company Star Finanz as a joint venture with the Deutsche Sparkassen Organization . In the following years it developed with StarMoney into a major provider of home banking software. At the beginning of 2001 he also sold his shares in this company.

In August 2001 Börries founded VerdiSoft and acted as CEO . There the new technology Yahoo! Go , which enables optimized access to mail, photos, messages and other web content for mobile phone displays. VerdiSoft, together with its technology know-how, was sold to Yahoo in February 2005 , where Börries worked as Executive Vice President in the Connected Life division until April 2009 .

Börries lived in California with his wife and three children until 2008 , then moved with his children to Hamburg and Berlin-Mitte .

On September 1, 2009, Marco Börries started his latest business idea , NumberFour Aktiengesellschaft based in Berlin . The company developed an open software platform ( PaaS ) for the development, sales and marketing of vertical solutions for smaller companies. After four years of development activity, Börries raised US $ 38 million from financial investors for the company in the summer of 2013 to finance the market launch of the software. In March 2017, the enfore brand came onto the market with a business platform for small businesses that combines online services, software and hardware ( POS terminals ).

Other entrepreneurial activities that did not lead to market entry were Adhoc Mobile GmbH, founded in 2009, and Mag10 GmbH, which was founded in 2010 and was supposed to develop a solution for tablet publishing , but was put on hold at the end of 2011.
