Margaret Hamburg
Margaret Hamburg (born July 12, 1955 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American doctor . From 1991 to 1997 she was New York City's Health Commissioner . Between May 22, 2009 and April 1, 2015 she was the director of the US Food and Drug Administration . In 2020 she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
Hamburg studied at Radcliffe College and received her MD from Harvard Medical School .
She is married to Peter Fitzhugh Brown and the couple have two children.
