The Margarethenhöhe hill is a striking elevation on the north-western boundary of Möhra with the neighboring villages of Kupfersuhl and Ettenhausen an der Suhl in the Wartburg district and forms the northern edge of the moorland .
history
The name is reminiscent of a medieval chapel of Saint Margaret from pre-Reformation times. In their vicinity was the place of execution for the neighboring places (field name: snap gallows). Mining flourished in the area around Kupfersuhl and Möhra since the 15th century. Part of the mined ore was smelted on the northern slope of Margarethenhöhe at a smelter located there on the Suhl with a stamping mill and copper hammer. On the hillside, there are still bluish black remains of cinder from this period, which lasted until the 18th century.
Today the state road L 1023 leads over the Margarethenhöhe from Marksuhl to Waldfisch . The western slope towards Oberrohn is called Lindig.
