Margate City is a city in Atlantic County , New Jersey , United States . In the census of 2000 had a total population of 8,193 was recorded.

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 4.1 km² , of which 3.7 km² is land and 0.5 km² (11.39%) is water.
Demographics
As of the 2000 census, there are 8,193 people, 3,984 households and 2,302 families in the city. The population density is 2,243.5 inhabitants per km². 95.73% of the population are White, 0.87% African American , 0.02% Native American , 1.56% Asian , 0.07% Pacific Islander , 0.92% Other Ethnicity, and 0.83% Mixed Race . 2.71% are Latinos of any race.
Of the 3,984 households, 16.7% have children under the age of 18. 46.9% of them are married couples living together, 8.1% are single mothers, 42.2% are not families, 36.1% are single households and 17.5% are people over 65. The average household size is 2 .06, the average family size 2.67.
15.4% of the population are under 18 years old, 4.5% between 18 and 24, 23.4% between 25 and 44, 27.9% between 45 and 64, 28.9% older than 65. The average age is 50 years. The ratio of women to men is 100: 89.1, for people older than 18 the ratio is 100: 86.6.
