Margit Auer
Margit Auer (born February 23, 1967 in Mühldorf am Inn ) is a German journalist and writer whose children's novels have been translated into over 20 languages with a total circulation of 3 million.
Life
Margit Auer grew up in Waldkraiburg with two older brothers. In 1986 she graduated from the Ruperti-Gymnasium in Mühldorf. She completed her studies in Eichstätt in 1992 as a qualified journalist. Auer then worked as an editor and reporter for various daily newspapers in Bavaria. In 1997 she opened an editorial office. She wrote for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the German Press Agency , among others .
After the birth of her children, Auer began to write children's books. Her first book was called Conspiracy on the Limes and was published in 2010. The series The School of Magical Animals started in 2013 with the two titles The School of Magical Animals and The School of Magical Animals: Full of Holes! . Volume 1 immediately landed on the Spiegel children's bestseller list. The subsequent volumes also achieved top positions on bestseller lists. The total circulation of the series is over 2.5 million copies sold. For the Reading Foundation , the author created a special edition of the first volume for first-time readers as part of the “Reading Start - Three Milestones for Reading” campaign. 450,000 copies of this title were distributed to school classes in Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
She was appointed to the Munich tower clerk in 2018. In March 2019 she was awarded the Heidelberg Leander 2019 Children's Book Prize. Since November 2019 Margit Auer has been working as a weekly columnist for the "Family Trio" of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, where she answers questions about upbringing together with Collien Ulmen-Fernandes and Herbert Renz-Polster.
Margit Auer is married to the journalist and crime writer Richard Auer . The couple has three sons.

Theater adaptation
In 2017 The School of Magic Animals premiered in Hungarian at the Kolibri Theater in Budapest.
filming
The film rights to the book series of the school of magical animals were given to the Berlin film production company Kordes & Kordes in 2014 after the producer Meike Kordes became aware of the first volume in the summer of 2013. A year later the two producers Alexandra and Meike Kordes met with the publishing house and the author to negotiate the film rights.
Shooting began in September 2019 at Grafenegg Castle in Lower Austria. Other locations were Munich and Cologne. Viola MJ Schmidt wrote the script. Gregor Schnitzler was entrusted with the direction . The budget is 9.5 million euros.
The main adult roles were given to Nadja Uhl (Mary Cornfield), Milan Peschel (Mortimer Morrison), Justus von Dohnányi (Heribert Siegmann), Heiko Pinkowski (Willi Wondraschek) and Marleen Lohse (Elvira Kronenberg). The main roles of the children were given to Emilia Maier (Ida Kronenberg), Leonard Conrads (Benni Schubert), Loris Sichrovsky (Jo Wieland) and Emilia Pieske (Helene May). Over 3,500 girls and boys applied for the children's casting. The animal voices speak Katharina Thalbach (turtle Henrietta), Max von der Groeben or Frederick Lau (Fox Rabbat) and Sophie Rois (Magpie Pinkie).
