Margrit Rieben

Margrit "Maru" Rieben (born May 6, 1963 in Bern ) is a Swiss jazz drummer and music teacher.

Live and act

Rieben received piano lessons from the age of eleven. She then studied drums at the Swiss Jazz School with Billy Brooks as a major (graduated in 1993). She was a member of Atropa Belladonna , the SwissImprovisersOrchestra (SIO) and the sound machine by Fritz Hauser . She belongs to the groups TSUKI (with Hans Koch and Paed Conca ), Beinwell and the percussion duo Bones and Battery (with David Lerch). She has also played with Dorothea Schürch , Alfred Zimmerlin , Joëlle Léandre , Maggie Nicols , Martin Schütz , Hans Burgener, Magda Vogel , John Wolf Brennan , Fredy Studer and Saadet Türköz .

From 1984 to 2004 she was a member and head of the workshop for improvised music in Bern. Rubbing has occurred in Europe and Japan. She is interested in a wide variety of sound generators and has also been creating sound installations since 2000 . She also works in the visual field, composing and teaching.

In 1995 Margrit Rieben received a music grant from the Canton of Bern for Paris. She was also a member of the Music Commission of the City of Bern from 1999 to 2004.
