Maria Muldaur (* 12. September 1943 as Maria Grazia Rosa Domenica D'Amato in Greenwich Village , New York ) is an American folk, jazz and blues singer.

Live and act

Born into a musical family of Italian origin, Maria Muldaur was exposed to many musical influences at an early age, which led her to folk music in Greenwich Village in the early 1960s after an early rock 'n' roll phase in school . After first appearances with local groups like the Even Dozen Jug Band and violin lessons with Doc Watson in North Carolina, the singer moved to Cambridge , Massachusetts , another popular and protest stronghold of the time. There she met her future husband, the folk singer Geoff Muldaur , who was a member of the Jim Kweskin Jug Band . A daughter, Jenni, was born, and several LPs were made together.

But in 1972 the collaboration and the marriage ended, and Maria Muldaur began her solo career. She became a versatile folk, country, jazz and blues singer who has processed the influences of numerous important musicians in the course of her career. Her first solo LP Maria Muldaur became a success in 1973 with the hit Midnight At The Oasis .
