Maria Josephina Arnoldina van der Hoeven (born September 13, 1949 in Meerssen ) is a Dutch politician ( Christen Democratisch Appèl ).

Life

From July 22, 2002 to February 23, 2007, she was Minister of Education in her country in the Balkenende III cabinet and then Minister of Economic Affairs in the Balkenende IV cabinet until October 14, 2010 . Since September 1, 2011, she has been head of the International Energy Agency .

Maria van der Hoeven initially worked as a local politician. From 1991 to 2002 she was a member of the Second Chamber of the States General . For a controversial discussion she made in 2005 with their advance, in addition to the theory of evolution and intelligent design to teach in public schools.

From April 20, 2016 to October 14, 2016 she was a member of the Supervisory Board of RWE AG .
