Marian Oprea (born June 6, 1982 in Piteşti ) is a Romanian triple jumper .

The junior world champion from 2000 contested his first major international championships at the 2001 World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, but did not get beyond qualification - as did the 2002 European Athletics Championships in Munich and the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis. His greatest success so far was winning the silver medal at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2002 in Vienna with a width of 17.22 m.

The breakthrough came at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, where he won the silver medal with 17.55 m. He was one of the favorites at the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005 and won the bronze medal with 17.40 m.

He achieved his personal best on July 5, 2005 at a meeting in Lausanne with 17.81 m. He jumped 2 centimeters further than the best three jumper in recent years, Christian Olsson , ever made it. At the European Championships in Göteborg in 2006 he had to admit defeat to Christian Olsson, but won the bronze medal. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Oprea was fifth.

At the European Athletics Championships 2010 Oprea won the silver medal behind the Briton Phillips Idowu . At the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships and the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships , he won bronze. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, he did not make it to the final.

Marian Oprea is 1.90 m tall and has a competition weight of 77 kg.
