The Marienschule Offenbach is a state-recognized, cooperative Catholic comprehensive school for girls sponsored by the Diocese of Mainz . The school unites different branches of school under one roof: Gymnasium with upper level, special level, secondary school and vocational school run side by side and are mutually permeable.

Around 1000 female students are taught by 80 teachers in the Marienschule.

history

In 1928, Englische Fräulein bought the building at Biebererstrasse 127, where a kindergarten was opened in 1929. The Lyceum under the name “Marienschule - Haus Maria Ward” took in the first female students.

After the Second World War, the Marienschule Offenbach was opened in the Ahornstrasse in 1953 and handed over to the Ursulines . In 1956 it was possible to teach for the first time in the new building at Ahornstraße 33. In the following years the sports field was completed by 1959, the chapel and the spacious new school building were inaugurated.

In 1988 the school was handed over to the Diocese of Mainz by the Ursulines ; however, the monastery on the property of the Marienschule remained home for the remaining Ursulines until 2017.

The new building was renovated in 2011, and the chapel was renovated in 2016.

School profile

Focus on music

The students of the lower grades are offered the opportunity to learn a string or wind instrument in class and to gain additional experience in playing this instrument in an orchestra. In addition, these classes have an additional hour of music per week. Teachers from the Offenbach Music School come to the school to learn the respective instruments.

Following the music classes in the lower grades, the pupils have the opportunity to develop their skills in the various music groups

Godmother

Every fifth class is assigned two ninth grade students for the time in the lower grades, who are supposed to help them to find their way around the new school and to act as contact persons for problems within the class. They are also responsible for organizing various festivals in the lower school.

Media scouts

The “media scouts” are a project of the Marienschule, which is dedicated to the topic of “dealing with new media” in the style of peer education . For this purpose, schoolgirls in the 8th and 9th grades are trained in areas such as WhatsApp stress, cyberbullying, etc. and develop this content independently with younger pupils. These impulses are taken up by the classes to further develop the topic or used as a basis for further cooperation with the media scouts.
