Mario Mutsch (born September 3, 1984 in Sankt Vith , Belgium ) is a former Luxembourg soccer player .

Born and raised in Belgium, Mutsch spent most of his active career in Belgium and Switzerland, in the Swiss Confederation at FC Aarau , FC Sion and FC St. Gallen . Mario Mutsch played 101 games for the Luxembourg national team , making him a record player.

Club career

The son of a Luxembourgish father who grew up in Belgium, whose ancestors come from Asselborn in the north of the Grand Duchy, and a Belgian mother grew up in the German-speaking town of Sankt Vith in East Belgium and began playing football at FC St. Vith before joining FC Olympia right changed. At the age of 16, Mario Mutsch played his first games for the club's first team. After four years, the trained car mechanic moved to the Belgian fourth division club Royal Spa FC in 2002 , where he got a contract for the first team. In 2005 he joined the RFC Union Kelmis in the Belgian third division.

From July 2006 Mutsch played for the second team of Alemannia Aachen in the German Oberliga Nordrhein and scored four goals in 30 games. After the season he moved on the recommendation of Jeff Saibene to FC Aarau , where Saibene was a coaching assistant . After two seasons for FC Aarau in the Axpo Super League with 56 games and three goals, he moved to the French second division club FC Metz in July 2009 . There he came to 32 missions in his first season . In 2010/11 Mutsch played 25 times and scored his only goal in Ligue 2 .

In July 2011 Mutsch moved back to Switzerland for FC Sion . From 2012 he played for FC St. Gallen , where Saibene was again a coach until 2015.

After a total of six years in Switzerland, Mutsch switched to Progrès Niederkorn in the BGL Ligue for the 2017/18 season . With this he created a curiosity . Since Mutsch has never been active for a Luxembourg club before in his career, the captain of the Luxembourg national team counts towards the foreigner contingent of his new club according to the so-called premier license . Since 2010, this has obliged the clubs of the BGL Ligue to include at least seven players on the match report who began their careers in Luxembourg. At the beginning of his time in Differdange Club Mario Mutsch caused a surprise when he with the FC Progrès Niederkorn in the first qualifying round for the UEFA Europa League , the Rangers threw out. After a dispute with head coach Cyril Serredszum , he was no longer part of the club's squad. At the end of the 2018/19 season, Mutsch ended his active career.

National team

At the age of 15, Mario Mutsch received an invitation for a Belgian national team, but had to cancel due to an injury. A friend of the Mutsch family, who later became the player's advisor, one day made contact between Mario and Guy Hellers , the then coach of the Luxembourg national team . After he found Mario Mutsch good, he played his first game for the U21s in Luxembourg after an invitation on September 2, 2005 in a 4-0 defeat against Portugal in Portimão . A few weeks later - on October 8, 2005 - Mutsch ran for the first time for the senior national team in a 5-1 win in the World Cup qualifier against Russia in Moscow . On June 2, 2019, the native of Sankt Vither, who never qualified for a major tournament with the Luxembourg team, played his farewell game in a 3: 3 friendly against Madagascar in Luxembourg City . With 101 international matches, he is the record player for Luxembourg.
