Mario Soldati
Mario Soldati (born November 17, 1906 in Turin , † June 19, 1999 in Tellaro ) was an Italian writer , screenwriter and director .
Life
Soldati studied art history in Turin. In 1929 he moved to New York for two years , where he taught at Columbia University . His report America primo amore , published in 1935 after his return to Italy , earned him numerous awards and made him known.
In the following years Soldati mainly wrote screenplays for movies, often based on literary models. In the post-war period he worked for several influential newspapers and also authored detective novels. As director and screenwriter of the film drama Dangerous Beauty (1953) with Gina Lollobrigida , he was nominated for the 1953 Grand Prix of the Cannes International Film Festival . In 1959 he received the prize for the best comedy there for clumsy career .
