Marion Weed

Marion Weed ( September 12, 1865 in Rochester - June 22, 1947 there ) was an American opera singer ( soprano ) and vocal teacher .

Life

Weed, the daughter of a merchant, came to Germany after she had sung many times in concerts and in church in America to receive training for the stage with Lilli Lehmann .

From 1896 to 1898 she got an engagement in Cologne , in 1898 she sang “Freya” in Rheingold at the Bayreuth Festival . In 1898 she went to the Hamburg Opera . Her performance as " Kirke " in the music drama of the same name by August Bungert deserves a special mention , which undoubtedly owes a considerable part of the effect it produced to her excellent performance (September 22, 1899). In 1903 she went to the Metropolitan Opera in New York (inaugural role: "Brünnhilde" in Die Walküre ); Until 1908 she sang the “Kundry” in Parsifal , the “Isolde” in Tristan and Isolde , the “Venus” in Tannhäuser , the “Mother” in Hansel and Gretel and the “Orlowsky” in the Fledermaus , a total of five years 17 Games in 70 performances. In 1910 she appeared as a guest in Hamburg and Hanover.

After finishing her stage career, she worked as a singing teacher , also at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester.
