Maris Lauri (born January 1, 1966 in Kiviõli , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician . She has been a member of the liberal reform party since 2014 .

From September 13, 2016 to November 23, 2016, Maris Lauri was in the cabinet of Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Estonia . From November 3, 2014 to April 9, 2015, Lauri was Estonian Minister of Finance.

Life, economy, politics

Maris Lauri graduated from high school in 1984 in the northeast Estonian city of Kohtla-Järve . From 1984 to 1989 she studied business cybernetics at Tartu State University . She passed her diploma as a mathematician and economist. In 1994 she obtained her master's degree in economics from the University of Tartu.

In 1993 her professional career began in the Estonian Ministry of Economy. From 1994 to 1998 Lauri was employed by the Estonian Central Bank ( Eesti Pank ). From 1998 to 2011 she worked as a business analyst at Swedbank . In 2011 she founded her own consulting company OÜ Oeconomia .

From April to November 2014 she was economic advisor to the Estonian Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas . Following the resignation of Jürgen Ligi , Maris Lauri became Minister of Finance of the Republic of Estonia on November 3, 2014. She was the first woman in this office.

After the formation of a new coalition government , Maris Lauri left the cabinet. She has since been a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ).

From September 13, 2016 to November 23, 2016, Maris Lauri was Minister of Education and Science in the cabinet of Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas . She then returned as a member of the Estonian Parliament.
