Maritta Bauerschmidt , after marriage to Maritta Grieässig , (born March 23, 1950 in Waldheim ) is a former German gymnast who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1968.

Career

Bauerschmidt was able to place in the top three four times at GDR gymnastics championships. In 1967 she was third on the balance beam, in 1968 she was second; on the ground she was runner-up in 1969 and third in 1970. In 1968 she was part of the GDR squad at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. Maritta Bauerschmidt, Karin Janz , Marianne Noack , Magdalena Schmidt , Ute Starke and Erika Zuchold took third place behind the ranks from the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia. In the individual standings, Bauerschmidt took twelfth place in the all-around event and was the third-best gymnast in the GDR.

In 1970 she switched to rhythmic gymnastics and was runner-up in the GDR in 1971. The trained chemist studied at the DHfK and belonged to the sports advertising group of the DTSB . As a sports teacher, she worked first in Budapest, then in Berlin-Lichtenberg. After the reunification she was employed in a youth project.
