Marjorie Best

Marjorie Best (born April 10, 1903 in Jacksonville , Illinois , USA; † June 14, 1997 in Toluca Lake , California , USA) was an American costume designer .

Life

After graduating from high school , Marjorie Best moved to Los Angeles to attend the Chouinard Art Institute, a branch of the California Institute of the Arts . She later worked as a designer for various well-known fashion houses. When Warner Bros. bought United Costumes in 1936, Marjorie, who worked there, was made an offer to work for the studio's costume department. She accepted the offer, and in the years that followed she gained a good reputation. Her work on men's costumes in color films was particularly well received, which was expressed in winning the Academy Award and three other nominations. By 1965 Marjorie Best worked on over 40 films. On June 14, 1997, she died of complications from a heart condition.
