Markus Schauer

Markus Schauer (born April 28, 1967 in Rettenbach ) is a German classical philologist .

Markus Schauer was nominated at the Bavarian Book Prize 2016 in the non-fiction category for "The Gallic War".

Life

Between 1988 and 1995, Schauer studied classical philology, philosophy , university and educational history and the history of natural sciences at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After the first state examination (subjects Latin and Greek) in 1995, he worked as a research assistant at Werner Suerbaum's chair . In 1996 he passed his master's degree in philosophy, Greek philology and Latin philology. In 2002 he was with Ernst Vogt and Dieter Bremer with the dissertation Tragisches Klagen. Form and function of the lamentation in Aeschylus , Sophocles and Euripides doctorate . He then moved to the Freie Universität Berlin as a research assistant , where he completed his habilitation in 2006 . His habilitation thesis Aeneas dux in Virgil's Aeneis : a literary fiction in the Augustan era was published in 2007 in the Zetemata series . After acting as professor at the Universities of Hamburg and Cologne , he was appointed W2 Professor for Classical Philology (with a focus on Latin Studies) in Cologne in 2008. In 2009 he switched to a W3 professorship for Classical Philology / Latin Studies at the University of Bamberg .
