Martin Sharp

Martin Scharfe (born March 8, 1936 in Waiblingen ) is a German folklorist .

Career

Scharfe first studied folklore , art history and sociology at the University of Tübingen . From 1965 to 1968 he worked as a research assistant at the Württemberg State Office for Folklore in Stuttgart . In the last year of this activity he received his doctorate with the dissertation Evangelical devotional pictures. Studies on the intention and function of the image in the history of piety, especially in the Swabian region . He then became a research assistant and academic advisor at the Ludwig Uhland Institute for Empirical Cultural Studies at Tübingen University. In 1980 he completed his habilitation with the work The Religion of the People , then taught as a private lecturer and then as an associate professor at that institute. From 1985 until his retirement in 2001 he was Professor of European Ethnology and Cultural Research at the University of Marburg . Between 2002 and 2006 he held a visiting professorship at the Institute for European Ethnology / Folklore at the University of Innsbruck .
