Martin Stankowski (* 1944 in Meschede ) is a German publicist, radio writer, storyteller , tour guide and cabaret artist.

Life

Martin Stankowski has lived in Cologne since the late 1960s . He studied German and theology and received his doctorate in 1974 at the Free University of Berlin in German with his dissertation The Left Catholic Press in Germany after 1945. In the 1960s he was the editor of the magazine Das große Wagnis des Quickborn-Jüngerenbundes in the BDKJ. From 1968 to 1974 he was one of the editors of the left-wing Catholic magazine Kritischer Katholizismus . In the 1970s he was one of the initiators of the citizens' initiative movement, the local newspaper Kölner VolksBlatt, which served as a means of counter - publicity .

He works as a journalist and presenter mainly for the WDR and has published a number of books. Stankowski became known through his excursions to historical and current scenes of Cologne city life. His two-volume book Cologne - The Other City Guide , first published in 1988/89, has become a classic. Cabaret programs , which he produced together with Jürgen Becker and Rainer Pause , also contributed to his popularity and are partly published in book form and as phonograms. In 1983, Stankowski co-founded the Cologne Archive , a collection on protest movements in Cologne since the 1960s, which was kept in the Historical Archive of the City of Cologne , but was initially considered lost after the collapse on March 3, 2009. Occasionally, Stankowski attracts attention through targeted provocations, for example when he demanded the reintroduction of the office of dog racket.
